Gal Pals

Sasquatch 2006 (Sarah, Nora, Ali)

So, just to be clear, we haven't actually left yet. Wednesday is our plane day! But I figured I could post a sweet pic of us gal pals for all to see. We're pretty jazzed about this epic adventure we're about to embark upon. That is all for now, probably until we arrive in Europeland. Okay... loveyoubye!

  3. A good friend at work who knows, says that on the 1-10 scale, Oktoberfest in Munich is a 12, compared to other cities in Germany. That's comforting! Don't fall of a stool and hit your head...

  4. thanks for the hug goodbye, nora. it will have to hold me for 11 weeks.

i am so excited as you, sarah, and ali embark upon this voyage of discovery. as usual, i have no wise words of my own to offer, so i'll share the wisdom of three very sagacious women:

"Carry enough money in your shoe or money pouch to get you out of a tight spot. Be willing to spend this money on a cab in order to get you to a safe place or back to your lodging. Do not take unnecessary risks." Marybeth Bond

"If you are being followed in the street and you feel threatened, duck into a shop and firmly tell the clerk: "I am a foreigner and someone is following me. I am frightened and need help." If need be, have the clerk call a cab or police officer for you." Marybeth Bond

"Try to sit or stand next to other women or family groups in restaurants, on trains or buses, and in other public places. It is unlikely that you will be approached or harassed if you're in the company of other people." Marybeth Bond

"Be sure to know when the sun rises and sets. A bustling market can quickly empty out and be transformed into dark deserted streets. Plan to be back to your lodging or in a safe, busy neighborhood by dark." Marybeth Bond

"There's no place like home". Dorothy

"Erleichda". Wren, Kudra, and Albert Einstein (maybe)

    much love, Nora's dad

  5. Hey you world travelin'girls - assuming that you have made it to Zurich and eventually on to Munich. I called Doug and he said to reach him, try dialing 001 - 49 then the number. Or the way I reached him - 011 (international numbers) - 49 (Germany). Please let us know what's up. Sorry I was so bleary this morning - I must have been in deep REM when you called.

  7. hello, ladies. i'm loving the fun and interestingly informative stories (TMI re sarah's magen-darm kanal, but appreciated the paternal reference to the decidedly under-done downunder dish) and i especially enjoyed all the wonderful happy photos. good to see you are making the most of this epic excursion (berlin nightlife vs. cologne culture), but i do hope you take the time to check out (in person, not by postcard) the rembrandts at the rijksmuseum (you'll be blown away), anne frank's house on the canal, the many cathedrals, the hague (and madurodam, the miniature city), a delft pottery factory, and other world class places on this once-in-a-lifetime lark. sorry to always be such a nag. be adventurously safe. much love, nora's dad

  8. happy 23rd birthday, ma cherie neymg. it was soooo nice (no, not the cote d'azur one) to talk with you this morning. the energy and excitement in your voice assured us the spirit of adventure remains alive and well as you move south to experience the authentic countryside charm of Orange (is there a french word which rhymes with "orange"?). i remember four years ago when mom and i surprised you on your 19th birthday at L&C. wish we could be there to help celebrate this one, aussi(i could use some sun and palm trees about now....). have un dîner merveilleux ce soir and know how much you are missed and loved. i will send you a photographic greeting (taken yesterday) from your niece (no, not the cote d'azur one).
beaucoup d'amour de votre vieil homme
